CLPMS Modern Rock Band Club

CLP Modern Rock Band

Modern Rock Band Club will begin on Wednesday, September 10th 2025. The club will meet every Wednesday from 2:35-4:35pm. The club is being run by a parent volunteer, Justin Bruen who began the club six years ago. There is not a certified staff member present. Below this application is a letter from Justin introducing himself and the club. Fill out this application and return it to the front office if you would like to attend. There will be an OPTIONAL $10 fee for each student to cover expenses like guitar strings. Please pay by check in the front office or on School Pay.

My name is Justin Bruen,

I attended CLP from 1981-1983 when it was called junior high.

One of my favorite classes was orchestra where I played the violin. Since then, I have always been involved in music production in some way.

I have played and still play in several different rock bands. I was a professional sound and recording engineer for over 15 years and have worked on many songs. This will be my third year hosting the rock back at CLPMS and I am excited to get back to the school where I started my music adventures and share my experience and knowledge about music. Our students had a great time last year!

It is an ambitious program open to students who are ready to pay attention, respect, listen, and learn from each other… but most of all… have fun rockin’ out!

Hope to see you there,

Justin

Objectives:
  • Explore the most common instruments used in modern rock music: Guitar, Bass, Keyboards, Drums, and Electronica. We will learn about tuning instruments, treating them with respect, and how to rock out with a few basic chords and rhythms.

  • Learn how to set up a sound and light system for a stage band. Learn about different kinds of microphones, amplifiers, and cables and how to set them up properly and safely.

  • Learn how to use a microphone properly for instruments and vocals.

  • Learn about song composure and how to listen to your favorite songs and identify the different parts that make them up.

  • Learn how to use dynamics in music and learn how to listen to each other.

  • Learn about and experiment with recording music on digital recording equipment.

Students will also be encouraged to research and experiment with choreography, dance, lighting, and special effects as they relate to music performance.
