English Language Arts

English Language Arts

The Language Arts program at CLPMS aims to develop critical thinkers and communicators within the context of the fundamental concepts of MYP instruction and the Colorado State Standards. Throughout the school year we will utilize Lucy Calkin’s Units of Study curriculum for both reading and writing instruction.

Students will practice assessing their strengths and limitations in reading and writing, while developing their own writing craft, bringing various pieces of writing to publication, and analyzing a variety of literature and nonfiction texts. Additional instruction in vocabulary throughout the year will support student’s ability to comprehend a variety of fiction and non-fiction texts, as well as their ability to express themselves in their written communication. The workshop model will allow students to practice the collaborative communication skills required of 21st century workers through partner work, conferencing, and trusted peer evaluation.
