8th Grade IB Community Project Begins!
The 8th Grade Community Project encourages students to explore their right and responsibility to take action by serving in the community. The Community Project gives students an opportunity to develop awareness of needs in various communities and address those needs through service learning. In addition, students develop skills in working on a long term project of their own choosing, practicing organization, time management, research skills, and collaboration skills.
Students have recently selected a topic and may work independently or with one other person, but each student must complete their own presentation board. Please ask your student about what they are thinking so far. Students will work on various requirements of the project during Advisory over the next few months. They need to do some form of service outside of school hours as well. They will be learning about their options during Advisory class. There may be an opportunity for you to engage in some research or service over the Thanksgiving or Winter break that could help them move forward with this project.
If your student/family performs community service over the Thanksgiving or Winter break, please have your Pirate keep track of service hours so they can use them later. They should document their service with photos to use in their final project. The typical volunteer time requirement is 3-5 hours. Please contact Ms. Longoria, the IB Coordinator with any questions.
Community Project Showcase will be held after school early April, 2026.
Thanks!
